Born in 1971, Liu Yu graduated in 1995 from the Department of Chinese Painting at the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. He has engaged in professional art education for many years while devoting himself to in-depth research and creative practice in traditional Chinese landscape painting.

• 2002 – Chinese painting Yellow Sky · Thick Earth · Dwellings selected for the National Art Exhibition commemorating the 60th anniversary of Mao Zedong’s Talks at the Yan’an Forum on Literature and Art, organized by the China Artists Association
• 2016 – Work Crimson Mountains, Azure Waters exhibited in Advancing Along the Belt and Road · Dialogues with Chinese Civilization, an international invitational exhibition hosted by the Publicity Department of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee and the China National Academy of Painting
• April 2017 – Selected works included in the catalogue of Only Wisdom at the Horizon, the First Invitational Exhibition of the Youth Academy of the Li Keran Painting Institute
• June 2017 – Completed the First Advanced Research Program on Chinese Landscape Painting Creation led by Cui Zhenkuan
• October 2017 – Invited to participate in events commemorating the 110th anniversary of Li Keran’s birth, including Retracing the Master’s Path: European Sketching Invitational Exhibition (Austria, Czech Republic, Germany), and attended the Belt and Road China–Europe Art Exchange Exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna
• March 2018 – Invited to exhibit and attend Painted Words of the Silk Road: Invitational Exhibition of Renowned Chinese Artists in Saint Petersburg, Russia
• October 2018 – Work selected for the Second Chinese Painting Biennale (Hebei); attended opening ceremony and academic symposium
• May 2019 – Invited to participate in Inscribing the Nation’s Mountains and Rivers, a plein-air sketching program celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, jointly organized by the Li Keran Painting Institute and the Publicity Department of Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou
• June 2019 – Participated in and attended the opening of Between North and South: Shanghai–Xi’an Youth Ink Exchange Exhibition at Yunjian Art Center, Sijing Ancient Town, Shanghai
• November 3, 2019 – Attended the Third Joint Art Creation Program of the Two Academies, Inscribing the Nation’s Mountains and Rivers, National Sketching Exhibition of the Youth Academy of the Li Keran Painting Institute
• December 20, 2019 – Exhibited in Winds Gather at the Bay, the inauguration exhibition of Nanfeng Chinese Painting Institute, Shenzhen
• December 30, 2019 – Participated in Affinity of the Shu Roads, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Shi Lu’s birth, a joint exhibition of calligraphers and painters from Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Chongqing; attended the symposium on Shi Lu’s art and revolutionary spirit
• June 25, 2020 – Participated in Origin of the Silk Road · Blessed Ankang, the opening ceremony of Ankang Art Museum and a large-scale exhibition of fine art and calligraphy
