Sawatou Mouratidou is an internationally active textile artist of Greek
origin, currently based in Vienna. She studied in the Fiber Arts Program
at the University of Washington (USA) and expanded her expertise
through further training with distinguished artists. Since 2006, she has
operated her studio under the label Sawatou Fiber Artist.
In her body of work Anthropos – Being Human, Mouratidou engages with
questions of coexistence across cultures and the formative influences
that arise from these interactions. Her figurative works reflect human
experiences of relationship, choice, and transformation. Wool serves as
a medium of expression, embodying warmth, vulnerability, and
connection—qualities that impart an organic and animate presence to
her figures.
In addition to her artistic practice, Mouratidou works as a lecturer,
curator, and organizer. Since 2023, she has headed the Textile Art
Section of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Austria, where
she is committed to advancing the visibility and appreciation of
contemporary textile art.
Her works have been presented in numerous exhibitions both nationally
and internationally.
