Su Meilun (ALun) | Biography

Born in 1947 in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, Su Meilun is a renowned artist whose career spans military art, cinematic media, and large-scale historical oil paintings.

Early Career & Military Service

1947: Born in Quanzhou, Fujian.

1966: Graduated from high school and applied to the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA).

1968: Enlisted in the army, where he created an extensive body of military-themed propaganda art.

1971: After demobilization, served as an art teacher at Quanzhou No. 3 Middle School. During this period, his printmaking works were featured in joint exhibitions across Fujian, Jiangxi, and Anhui provinces, and published in prominent outlets such as Fujian Daily, Frontline Militia, and Fujian Literature and Art.

Media & Commercial Success in Hong Kong

1979: Relocated to Hong Kong and served as Art Editor for the cinema magazine The Silver World.

1980: Co-founded Hong Kong Film Weekly alongside Leung Lap-yan and the renowned Cinema City Co., Ltd.

1988: Established ALun Oil Painting Company, fostering close collaborations with major galleries across Europe and the United States.


Artistic Focus & Major Works

2000–Present: Shifted focus to independent creative work, primarily exploring ancient Chinese warfare culture and the Hui’an Women. His style is recognized for being innovative, powerful, and profound, possessing a deep artistic resonance.

2015: Completed the 22-meter monumental war scroll, The Majestic Spirit of Han and Tang. The masterpiece was exhibited in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Germany.

2017: The art album The Majestic Spirit of Han and Tang was published by the China Artist Press. It has since been permanently collected by the Military Library of the Academy of Military Sciences (PLA), which issued him a Certificate of Honor.

2021: Hong Kong’s Ming Pao Monthly published print editions of The Majestic Spirit of Han and Tang accompanied by in-depth critical analysis.
