Karla Cavallaro

Karla Karina Cavallaro Orence is a Venezuelan architect and visual artist based in Vienna. Her multidisciplinary practice spans drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, screen printing, jewellery, and design, reflecting a deep engagement with material, space, and cultural narrative. For Cavallaro, art, design, and creation are not merely practices but lived passions through which identity, emotion, and social connection are articulated.

Rooted in architectural training, her artistic language combines spatial thinking with a sensitive and contemporary visual approach. Her works operate at the intersection of architecture, emotion, and identity, exploring both inner processes and structural order. Through contrasts of form and colour, the use of geometry and proportion, and the emphasis on natural elements, Cavallaro develops compositions that balance precision with poetic expression.

Born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Cavallaro has lived and worked in Vienna, where in December 2023 she founded KarlaKaribe, a Latin American art and crafts space located at Sechsschimmelgasse 17, 1090 Vienna. The space serves as both a workshop and a cultural meeting point, where her architectural knowledge and craft-based practice converge. Through book presentations, workshops, exhibitions, and film screenings, KarlaKaribe fosters dialogue between people and space, encouraging cultural exchange and creative engagement.

Cavallaro collaborates closely with the Confederación Latinoamericana in Austria and is actively involved in community-based artistic initiatives. Her daily working environment reflects her vibrant personality and her affinity for colour and material. As an independent and resilient woman, she has forged her own path, guided by a strong commitment to family, creativity, and social responsibility.

Her jewellery and crafted objects function as carriers of memory and connection, telling stories that bridge cultures and generations. Through her workshops, she promotes mindfulness, bilingual exchange, and the strengthening of individual creative potential. For Cavallaro, art is a transformative space of encounter—one in which aesthetics and human experience are inseparably linked. As she affirms, “Aesthetics and art are deeply rooted in our souls.”
