José Carlos Boyer Chávez, known artistically as BOCH, is a Peruvian painter, sculptor,
and art restorer born in 1973 in Piura, Peru. Raised within a deeply rooted artistic and spiritual family—his father, Arcadio Boyer Ramírez, is a renowned painter and his grandparents were shamans—his work emerges from a profound connection between creativity, discipline, and ancestral knowledge. This fusion of spirituality and artistic practice forms the foundation of his entire oeuvre.

BOCH studied at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes “Macedonio de la Torre” in Trujillo, Peru (1991–1995), graduating in 1996 as third in his class and receiving the title of Visual Artist. His degree was later formally recognised in Spain as Licenciado en Bellas Artes. Since 1998, he has lived and worked in Europe and is currently based in Vienna, Austria. Throughout his career, Boyer Chávez has participated in numerous museum and institutional exhibitions in Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Spain, France, and Austria. After several years in Madrid—where he became an active part of the Ibero-American art scene—he developed a visual language that bridges Latin American symbolism with European formal traditions.

For BOCH, art represents the highest expression of human existence. He understands the artist as a mediator between the inner world and external reality, capable of reinterpreting emotion, memory, and lived experience through image, sound, and material. His paintings and sculptures engage in an intense dialogue between myth, identity, and transformation, where light and colour become carriers of inner change. Through this synthesis, his work seeks to express the enduring connection between South American and European cultures in a contemporary, resonant visual form.
