The year 2026, the Bingwu Year of the Red (Fire) Horse, symbolizes an excess of fire and a time of transformation. Drawing from a scene in the video game Red Dead Redemption 2, I isolate the image of a horse whose body is engulfed in flames while its four hooves stand in water. This paradox becomes a metaphor for a shared contemporary state of mind.The fire scorching its back signifies the immediate pressures and anxieties of our time; the water surrounding its hooves represents resources and calm that are close at hand, yet difficult to activate.

Unable to lie down and save itself due to a heightened sense of danger, the horse mirrors the condition of modern individuals trapped in structural dilemmas: despite possessing the means to resolve their problems, persistent anxiety and stress responses prevent them from acting with ease or clarity.

Suspended between water and fire, this horse becomes a mirror of the era—reflecting a widespread reality of clear awareness and endurance, yet an inability to self-rescue.

Kim Graduated in 2016 from the Sculpture Department of the School of Art at Inner Mongolia University. During his studies, he was selected for the Nordic International Art Studio and participated in an exchange program at Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Denmark.
