Fabián García
Fabián García, known artistically as Cínico Canino, is a Colombian multidisciplinary artist whose work is deeply rooted in traditional printmaking while engaging critically with contemporary visual culture. Drawing inspiration from the great masters of engraving, his practice creates a dialogue between past and present, intertwining ancient myths with modern cultural narratives. Through this process, García explores and celebrates cultural heritage, bringing to light stories and symbols that shape collective and personal identity.
Born in Cali, Colombia, into a family of artists and with indigenous roots, Cínico Canino began his artistic path in an art and cultural school, where he developed a strong foundation in drawing and manual techniques. He refined practices such as engraving, glass engraving, charcoal drawing, and traditional printmaking, later expanding his visual vocabulary through extensive travel across South America, Asia, and Europe. These journeys profoundly influenced his symbolic language and thematic depth.
His work moves within a field of tension between light and darkness, order and chaos, melancholy and hope. Masks, figures, and archetypal symbols recur throughout his oeuvre, forming visual universes that are both mythological and deeply human. García’s images do not merely narrate; they question, connect, and resonate, inviting contemplation and dialogue with the unseen.
Since 2015, Fabián García has been based in Vienna, where he continues to develop his artistic practice and contribute actively to the local and international art scene. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including the presentation of Matrone at the Día de Muertos exhibition at Galerie Lichtraum in 2024. In parallel with his studio practice, he is deeply committed to education, offering engraving courses, traditional artisanal workshops, and masterclasses in xylography, including advanced training under Prof. Pedro Peralta.
In recent years, García has also expanded his practice into sculptural cartonería and other experimental techniques such as tusche, burnishing, embossing, and mixed graphic processes. Positioned at the threshold between tradition and contemporary rebellion, the intimate and the collective, Cínico Canino’s work embodies a politically conscious yet poetic vision—one that honours Latin American rhythms while asserting a distinctive, contemporary voice.
