Chespi – José Augusto Ramírez

Chespi – José Augusto Ramírez is a visual artist and illustrator whose practice spans mural painting, illustration, and painting on canvas. His work captures scenes of everyday life, transforming ordinary moments, adventures, and mishaps into expressive visual narratives. Chespi portrays the human being in all its facets—worry and joy, fear and love, heartbreak and hope—treating every emotion as a meaningful subject.

His murals, illustrations, and paintings function as self-contained stories, characterised by a direct yet sensitive visual language. Through expressive forms, colour, and movement, his work reflects a deep engagement with emotional and social realities. Chespi studied at the Sorbellini Cartoon Institute and has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions since the late 1990s, contributing to both gallery-based and public art contexts.

Since 2010, he has worked extensively as a mural artist, collaborating with other artists and taking part in international mural meetings, festivals, and congresses. His artistic journey has led him across South America, Europe, and Morocco, where travel and cultural exchange have strongly influenced his visual language.

Since 2020, Chespi has been based in Vienna, where he draws inspiration from classical European art and blends it with the expressive style of his South American roots. Whether through murals, painting, or music, his work reflects a continuous process of experience, transformation, and reflection—seeking to imbue everyday life with beauty, meaning, and thought.
