Carolina Acosta Figueiras

Painted Birds, the artistic alias of Carolina Acosta Figueiras, is a multidisciplinary artist, content creator, and filmmaker in process, working across videography, photography, graphic design, and experimental mixed-media practices. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, she moved to Spain at the age of ten with her family, an early experience of cultural transition that would later become central to her artistic identity.

From a young age, Acosta Figueiras developed a strong sensitivity to artistic processes. Deeply influenced by her mother, Maria Lourdes Figueiras, she discovered that not only the finished artwork but also the act of creating—marked by concentration, calm, and emotional presence—was essential to her understanding of art. Her parents actively supported her artistic interests, enabling her to pursue further education alongside her formal schooling in Galicia.

In her early twenties, she consciously chose an independent path, spending time in Western Europe before settling in Vienna. Arriving on her own, she navigated linguistic and cultural integration with determination and quickly became part of the Viennese creative scene. Since 2021, she has worked professionally in a digital agency, producing content for both local and international contexts.

Alongside her digital practice, Painted Birds develops tactile, printed, and experimental works that translate intuition into material form. Her art blends elements of pop culture, surreal imagery, and emotional storytelling, often addressing themes such as longing, identity, mental health, belonging, and the search for new perspectives. She embraces the subjective nature of art, rejecting rigid stylistic categorisation and inviting viewers to form their own interpretations.

For Acosta Figueiras, art is a space of honesty and freedom—an open process where emotions, thoughts, and lived experiences converge. Through exhibitions and collaborations, she values dialogue and exchange with artists, curators, and audiences of all generations, affirming her belief that art is boundless and deeply human.
